Today’s Deal – Big Savings on SanDisk Products at Amazon

Today’s Deal is actually on a lot of things today.  Amazon has a wide range of SanDisk storage solutions as part of their Gold Box Deal that can save you up to 35% off.  All of the items on sale can be found here and some of them are a great deal.  For example, you can pick up a 128GB MicroSD card for just $32.99 and a 64GB card for $21.99.  One of my personal favorites, the SanDisk Ultra Fit USB Flash Drive, is down to $14.29 for the 64GB model.  The sale has really any form factor that you could need, from MicroSD cards all the way up to SSDs and external hard drives.

Amazon every quarter or two does one of these huge sales and it typically involves SanDisk when it comes to storage.  I often highlight them in Today’s Deal because I one, use them personally, and two, I know they are reliable with great performance.  The great thing is, even if you aren’t an Amazon Prime customer, you can still get these great prices.  Prime just gives you the free shipping.

The sale is today only and at the time of this post, all of the products on the Gold Box page were in stock.  There is typically no limit to how many you can buy but things to tend to go out of stock the further we get into the day.  For all the SanDisk products in Today’s Deal, head over to Amazon to check out the details.

Today’s Deal – SanDisk Ultra USB-C 64GB Flash Drive for $21

Today’s Deal is on an excellent flash drive for USB-C.  The SanDisk Ultra USB-C flash drive allows you to have external storage with super fast transfer speeds and storage up to 128GB.  Right now you can pick up the 64GB model for $20.99 on Amazon.  As the name suggests, this flash drive has the new USB-C connector, not the older USB-A connector you see on most flash drives.  This allows this to work with the latest lineup of Macs and Chromebooks easily.

Because this drive is leveraging USB-C, transfer speeds are impressive.  You get up to 150mb/s using this drive so moving files to and from this drive is fast and efficient.  That USB-C port is also protected by a sliding cover that is built into the chassis of the drive.

The SanDisk Ultra USB-C drive is offered in four different sizes to meet your needs.  Here are the prices and savings on this deal today.

At the time of this post, all sizes were in stock although quantities were limited on the 64GB model.  If you are an Amazon Prime customer, you get free shipping on these too.

Today’s Deal – Lenovo Phab 2 Pro with Tango Support Down to $370

Today’s Deal is on the first Project Tango enabled phone, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro.  Right now you can pick one up in Grey for $370.25 on Amazon.  That’s a healthy saving off the original price of $499.  For those who may not recall what exactly Project Tango is from Google, it is devices and apps that work in augmented reality.  These apps and now the Phab 2 Pro allow you to do thing like measure distances, fly through the solar system and other things all from the device.  A good example is the Lowe’s Vision app for Tango. It allows you to measure a space in your house and virtually put an appliance or other furniture you buy from Lowes in your house.

As for the Phab 2 Pro, you are getting a lot of horsepower in the package from Lenovo, starting with the 6.4″ display that renders 2560 x 1440.  Coupled with this is the Snapdragon 652 octa-core process running at 1.8GHz.

Today’s Deal – SanDisk Ultra Fit 64GB USB Flash Drive for $18

Today’s Deal is on the low profile USB Flash Drives from SanDisk.  Over at Amazon you can pick up the SanDisk Ultra Fit 64GB drive for $18 with other sizes available.  The Ultra Fit series are designed to fit into the USB 3.0 port of your PC, Mac or Chromebook and not protrude like a normal Flash Drive.  Indeed, the idea is that you can leave it in your computer without ever having to take it out when you slip it into a bag or backpack.

The sale is on the 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB versions of the Ultra Fit.  All four are have a zippy read speed of 150MB/s so while they are too slow to run apps from, they are perfect for data, photos and videos.  The drives also come with SanDisk’s SecureAccess software to encrypt the drives should they ever be lost or stolen (although you can use MacOS and BitLocker encryption should you choose to do so instead).  I personally use one  of these Ultra Fit drives (the 64GB model) and have no problem recommending them.  They are a great performing accessory for your Chromebook (in my case).

Today’s Deal – The New Moto G5 Plus for $239 on Amazon

Today’s Deal is on the all new Moto G5 Plus.  The phone was announced last week and today is its first day of availability.  You can pick up the Android Nougat running phone with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for $239 from Amazon.  There are a lot of options on this phone but if you are willing to put up with Amazon ads on the lock screen, you can save a few dollars.

The Moto G5 Plus has a 5.2″ Full HD display rendering at 1024 x 1920.  That gives you a solid PPI count of 424, making it easy on the eyes for long periods of viewing.  It is powered by the Snapdragon 625 processor running all eight cores at 2.0GHz.  As mentioned, the top end configuration has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.  That storage can be expanded up to an additional 256GB thanks to the MicroSD slot.

The phone is sold unlocked on Amazon so it works with various carriers.  A nice benefit is for you Verizon and Sprint customers.  Yes, this phone will work for you as it supports GSM and CDMA.  AT&T and T-Mobile customers, it’s fully compatible for you too.

Today’s Deal – Sony Xperia X Compact Down to $349 on Amazon

Today’s Deal is on a great phone that I reviewed a few months ago.  The Sony Xperia X Compact has a lot of punch in a little package and right now, it is on sale for $349 at Amazon.  Normally this 4.6″ phone is $499, so this is a healthy amount of savings.  It is powered by the Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor.  It has four 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 cores &  two 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72 cores.  The processor is coupled with the Adreno 510 GPU which provides good graphics performance.  The X Compact has 3GB of RAM onboard and has 32GB of built-in storage.  That storage can be expanded up to an additional 256GB thanks to the Micro SD slot that is built into the SIM tray of the phone.

Display wise, the Xperia X Compact has a 4.6″ IPS LCD display that renders at 720 x 1280.  That gives you 319 ppi which is low compared to other devices out there.  I caution readers to consider that this device has a much smaller display so 319 ppi is actually very comfortable on this screen size.  Indeed for comparison, the iPhone 6 had 329 ppi so we aren’t talking about a massive difference from even larger devices.  The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

Today’s Deal – Nextbit Robin in Mint Down to $149

Over at Amazon you can still pick up the Nextbit Robin for $149.   I reviewed the Robin a few months ago and at the time I said it was a pretty good deal at $299.  At $149, it is one of the best deals on a phone with these specs out there right now.  Over the holidays the phone was $169 on Amazon so this price drop makes it the lowest price the phone has ever been available.

For those that don’t recall, the Nextbit Robin has some great features and offers a unique device-meets-cloud storage solution.  It has 32GB of onboard storage merged with 100 GB online storage, so you always have the space you need. Robin seamlessly backs up your apps and photos, intelligently archives the stuff you’re not using, and easily restores items when you need them.  The idea is that you never run out of space.  Those less used apps are backed up into the cloud but then are instantly available when you want them.  You’ll know an app has been backed up into the cloud as it will be grey on your Robin.  You can read my review of the Robin to see all my thoughts on this great little phone.  I also think it is perhaps one of the most underrated phones of 2016.

Today’s Deal – Google OnHub ASUS Wi-Fi Router is $129 at The Google Store

Today’s Deal is on the ASUS built dual-band Google OnHub router.  The OnHub router is currently down to $129 at the Google Store and eligible for free shipping.  For those who don’t know, the OnHub routers were the predecessor of what is now Google Wi-Fi.  It allows easy network management through the Google Wi-Fi app and is completely compatible with the new Wi-Fi models from Google.  This router will completely mess with the new ones, giving you complete coverage in your home.

The OnHub has high performance antennas that auto-tune to give you the best Wi-Fi experience in your home without you having to do anything.  It does this by moving your device from channel to channel to find the least crowded one on your network.
