OneDrive for Android Update Adds Document Scanning Function

Microsoft has released an update to the OneDrive app for Android that brings several new features.  The updated version is build 4.1 for those keeping score and out at the Google Play Store now.  The biggest feature change in this update is the ability to “scan” a document from within the app directly to your OneDrive account.  The new feature leverages the Office Lens functionality which, if you haven’t tried it, is mighty impressive in its own right.  Now OneDrive will leverage that technology and give you a clean, crisp image of a document.

Microsoft Updates Excel, PowerPoint and Word for Android With Various Improvements

Microsoft has quietly rolled out updates to the Office suite apps Excel, PowerPoint and Word for Android today, bringing a few product enhancements and tweaks to each app.  For those of you who use and have the apps on your phone or tablet, the OTA updates are in the Google Play Store now and should be hitting your devices over the course of the next few days.  With these update, each app has gotten a bit of attention when it comes to new features or improvements to existing features.

Outlook for Android Update Brings Improved Attachment Downloads to Some Devices

Microsoft has released an updated version of Outlook for Android that brings a much improved ability to download email attachments on certain devices.  The updated version, build 2.0.57 for those keeping score at home, is available now in the Google Play Store and will be rolling out as an OTA update to those with the app installed over the course of the next few days.  In this new build, users will now have the ability to download an attachment to their device directly from the email view.  You can also do this download from the File page in the app.

Microsoft Updates Next Lock Screen for Android

Microsoft’s lock screen app, Next Lock Screen, has seen an update today that brings several bug fixes along with several new features to the app.  If you aren’t familiar with Next Lock Screen, it is a lock screen app that provides you notifications, calendar updates and now an app usage aware quick launchpad all from your lock screen.  It is actually a very informative and elegant lock screen app that gives you a good amount of information without having to actually unlock your device.  So why use a lock screen app like this instead of the Android built-in lock screen?  Mainly so you can get more customized information.

Microsoft Previews Evernote Import Tool for OneNote

For long time Evernote users, the thought of leaving the service is daunting if for no other reason that the fear of losing notes and notebooks or, even worse, having to copy and paste all those notes into a new app.  That is the scenario that faced me at the beginning of this year.  As a long time Evernote user, my company standardized on Office 365, of which OneNote is a part of the suite.  In my case, I simply started using OneNote January 1st while I kept my notes in Evernote simply so I could avoid this problem.  Microsoft it seems has heard this dilemma from a lot of people and on Friday announced a new Evernote import tool for OneNote.

Microsoft Updates Office Apps for Android

Microsoft has released updated versions of their Office apps Excel, Word and PowerPoint for Android today with several new features and enhancements.  The apps are starting to show up in the Google Play Store and if you have the apps installed already, you should see the updates hit your devices over the course of the next few days.  While there are some unique features to Excel and PowerPoint, all three of them have received general update that users of the suite will appreciate.

Microsoft Updates Arrow Launcher for Android

Microsoft continues to develop and enhance their apps for Android with one of the newest, Arrow Launcher, getting a healthy update over the weekend.  The updated build is version 1.1.2 for those keeping score at home and there are a lot of fixes, improvements and UI changes in this update to the launcher.  Designed for Android phones, Arrow Launcher gives a mult-page look to your phone that brings things like contacts, widgets, most used apps and reminders within easy reach.

OneDrive Update Brings Improved Photo Sync to Android

Microsoft has released an update to OneDrive, their cloud storage app & service, for Android that brings a much improved photo sync capability to your phone or tablet.  The updated version is build 3.9.1 for those keeping score at home and it is available now in the Google Play Store.  The entire update seemingly is focused on helping you make sure that the photos you have on your device get sync’d up, not just those you take with your phone’s camera.  Let me explain.
