AT&T Issues Update To The LG G4

AT&T has pushed out an OTA update for customers using the carrier’s version of the LG G4.  The update, which is based on Android Lollipop, addresses multiple items within the software running on the device and brings additional security updates to it as well.  Users of the LG G4 will get notification of the update on their device and can download it over Wi-Fi or celluar.  The update is 26.5MB in size so not huge and brings the Lollipop build version to LMY47D which is Lollipop 5.1.0.

AT&T Raises Throttle Limit on Unlimited Plans

AT&T has significantly increased the point at which they begin throttling your data throughput if you are on one of their unlimited plans.  The increase from 5GB to 22GB is significant for users and for their part, should get the FTC looking the other way instead of at AT&T for a little while.  AT&T has been under rather consistent scrutiny over how they deal with their grandfathered unlimited plans, something they no longer offer many customers still have on their plans.

Review of Acer C670 Chromebook – Solid Performance at a Great Price

When I received the Acer C670 to review, I commented to my wife that the world has come full circle. When I started my career first in networking then in telecommunications, I had a green screen CRT that tied me back into mainframe.  Now, I have a Chromebook that ties me back into the Cloud. The only difference is that power and performance in a Chromebook is far superior to a dumb terminal.

The Acer C670 Chromebook is by all accounts a middle-of-the-road spec’d device. But don’t let that fool you or pass it over.  At only $149, it is an exceptional value for what it does and it has plenty of horsepower to meet your needs as a lightweight, almost always connected device. Truthfully the keyboard on the C670 is one of the better chicklet-style keyboards I’ve tested and it is large enough to feel like you are typing on a full sized keyboard.  While the display on the C670 could stand to be a bit better, overall this Chromebook is one to consider if you need something lightweight, small and always ready-to-go for your Google Doc and other online editing needs.

AT&T has announced today that users of their prepaid GoPhone program at the $60 level will have access to 4G data in Canada, Mexico and the United States, effectively eliminating data roaming throughout all of North America.  The news isn’t that surprising given the recent changes in T-Mobile’s data plans which effectively do the same for their customers.  The $60 GoPhone program already includes unlimited voice and text to Mexico, Canada and the United States so this is an added benefit that will start August 21st.
