T-Mobile Beings Rolling Out Their Oreo Update to The Galaxy Note8

Following AT&T, Sprint & Verizon, T-Mobile has now released their Android Oreo update for the Samsung Galaxy Note8 for customers on their network.  The news came from Desmond Smith, T-Mobile’s product evangelist, via Twitter late last night.

With the update just now being released, it is going to take a few days before it gets to everyone’s Galaxy Note8 in the wild.

Galaxy Note8 on Sprint & Verizon Now Receiving Their Oreo Updates

Just a few days after the Android Oreo update for the Galaxy Note8 began rolling out for AT&T customers, Sprint and Verizon customers are now starting to receive the update.  It means that three of the four major carriers in the United States have begun the updating process for their customers.  Only T-Mobile remains.

For readers who are on Sprint, you are looking for build N950USQU3CRC2 for your Note8.  For those of you on Verizon, the company hasn’t officially announced the update is available so a build number is not known.  However, multiple sources have indicated that Verizon is indeed rolling out the update.

Razer Phone to get Android Oreo 8.1 Update in April

Good news for those of you who have the Razer Phone:  Android Oreo 8.1 is coming your way in just a few weeks.  The company, who bought Nextbit to get their first phone out the door last year, has announced that they are skipping Oreo 8.0, going straight to 8.1, and that a developer preview of the build is now available too.

The preview is only available for sideloading at the moment so unless you are comfortable with that process (unlocking the bootloader, ADB commands, etc), I recommend you wait until it is officially released next month.

Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 Updates to Oreo 8.1 Starting to Roll Out

HMD Global, the company that owns Nokia, has begun slow rolling the Android Oreo 8.1 update out to the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6.  Starting in India and Indonesia, the update to 8.1 is expected to make its way to all global markets in the coming days.

For both devices, the update is just under 1GB in size and brings with it the March Android Security Update to both phones.  If you don’t recall what all comes in Oreo 8.1, you can get a debrief here.

Android Oreo Update Rolling Out to The LG V30 on AT&T

Good news this morning for those of you who have the LG V30 tied to AT&T.  The Android Oreo update for the phone has been released and is starting to roll out.  The update is build OPR1.170623.026 for those keeping score at home and, typical of most Oreo updates, it comes it at a hefty 1.7GB in size.  This is one you will certainly need to download via WiFi.

The update, to some’s disappointment, does not bring Oreo 8.1 but it does bring the March Android Security Update patch.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Down to $399 in Black on Amazon

Today’s deal is on the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact.  The 2017 4.6″ phone, which was just updated to Android Oreo, is down to $399 on Amazon.  That price is for the black version of the phone and represents a $200 savings off of the original price.  That’s a great deal for those who are looking for a high quality, compact device.

The  Xperia XZ1 Compact has a 4.6″ full HD display (1920 x 1080) and is powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC and coupled with the Adreno 540 GPU.  It has 4GB of RAM and has 32GB of storage.  That storage can be expanded up to an additional 256GB thanks to the MicroSD slot.

Galaxy Note8 on AT&T Getting Updated to Android Oreo Today

Good news this morning for Samsung Galaxy Note8 owners on AT&T.  Your Android Oreo update is now rolling out.  The 1.4GB update is build N950USQU3CRC2 for those keeping score at home and has been released by the carrier.  That means devices will start getting updates as soon as today.

And let’s take a moment to give AT&T a bit of credit.  They are notoriously slow at getting updates out to their customers but, in the case of the Note8, they were first.  They beat out Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint.  Kudos AT&T!

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro Are Finally Official – And Impressive

After weeks of rumors and leaks, the Huawei P20 and P20 Plus have finally been officially announced by the Chinese manufacture.  The two new phones follow up on last year’s P10 lineup and they both bring some serious specs to the table.

Both devices are powered by the Huawei Kirin 970 SoC, the same one used in the larger Mate 10 Pro.  The P20 comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage while the P20 Plus will sport 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage.  Neither device supports memory expansion, just like the Mate 10 Pro.
