Review of the Apple Pencil Case from Noreve – Stylish Storage

Like the Pixelbook Pen for the Google Pixelbook, the Apple Pencil for the iPad Pro is a handy but expensive accessory.  Protecting it while it is not in use is key and there are a lot of options to do just that on the market.  But when it comes to style and functionality of cases and protection for gear, few will match Noreve.  The St. Tropez, France company has been making couture cases for phones, laptop and tables for years and their first take on a case for the Apple Pencil is no exception.  It looks and feels couture in every way.

Noreve recently sent me their slim case for the Apple Pencil to review and like so many other Noreve products, it is impressive in every way and is a fitting case for an impressive device.

Mobvoi Ticwatch Update to Wear OS and Oreo Now Rolling Out

It has taken a bit longer than the company expected but if you have a Mobvoi Ticwatch E or S model, you should have your Wear OS update that brings Android Oreo available.  The company, in a recent post in their forums, indicates that 100% of devices should have the update now available and installed (or ready to install).

Originally the company had indicated that the update would roll out in March of this year but “Due to unexpected circumstances” the updates were delayed.  The company then began rolling out the update early last week with the 100% mark for all devices hit on May 16th.

I can confirm that my Mobvoi Ticwatch E has been updated.

Material Design Remake of Google News Site Rolls Out

Following up on the release of the Google News app for both Android and iOS, Google has rolled out the Material Design remake of the site for the service today.  With a far cleaner look with improved content visuals, the site matches nicely the new News app for mobile and should be a somewhat seamless experience for users.

Of all the things discussed at Google I/O last week, the revamp of Google News surprisingly took up a lot of digital ink over the course of the week.  In case you did miss it, Google News is more-or-less the replacement for Google Play Newsstand and Google News & Weather.

Second Chrome 68 Based Build Arrives in The Chrome OS Dev Channel

The second build based on Chrome 68 has arrived in the Chrome OS Dev Channel this morning.  The new build is 68.0.3431.0 (Platform version: 10682.0.0) for those keeping score at home and is available on most systems in that channel.

For those of you new to Chrome OS, the Dev Channel is what would be considered Alpha builds and often have a lot of bugs and odd behaviors, but also include some of the newest features that will be eventually be coming to Chrome OS.  Sometimes the features slip or accelerate depending on stability.  It is not recommended that you run your primary Chromebook in the Dev Channel as you will certainly run into challenges are things simply not working as expected.

Nudges in Gmail for Android are now Live

After debuting on the new Gmail experience on the web, nudges has landed in Gmail for Android too.  The feature gives you suggested reminders to follow up on emails or to reply to emails that are in your Gmail inbox.  The feature is a cloud-side update so as long as you are running the latest build of Gmail on your Android phone, you should see the feature.

Nudges in Gmail uses AI to survey your inbox and give you gentle reminders (aka nudges) to reply to an email or to follow up on an email.  The idea is to help you with a reminder so you don’t have something you need to follow up on slip through the cracks.

Today’s Deal – Google Pixelbook with Pixelbook Pen is $987 at Amazon

Today’s Deal is a great opportunity to pick up the Goggle Pixelbook along with the Pixelbook Pen.  Right now at Amazon, you can pick up the combination of the two for $987.  That is less than what the Pixelbook along normally costs.  This is the lowest price for the combination that I’ve seen for the premium Chromebook since its release.

The price is for the Intel i5 powered unit with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.  It is certainly powerful enough to do anything you would need, be it in Chrome OS or Android apps running on the device.

A Rare Third Update Lands in The Chrome OS Stable Channel

A third update to Chrome 66 has arrived in the Chrome OS Stable Channel today for the majority of devices out there.  Build 66.0.3359.181 (Platform version: 10452.96.0) arrives about 10 days after the second build of Chrome 66 was made available to Chrome OS.  It is not too often that a 3rd build is made available in the Stable Channel unless a show stopping bug or security flaw was found.  In this case, the Chromium team hasn’t released any details on what was addressed.

The update appears to be rolling out widely.  My Google Pixelbook was updated to the build late last night.

Third Chrome 67 Build Arrives in the Chrome OS Beta Channel

As expected, the Chromium team at Google has released a new beta build for the Chrome OS Beta Channel.  The update is the third beta for the channel as it is prepared for release early next month.  The update is build 67.0.3396.49 (Platform version: 10575.40.0) for those keeping score at home and is available for most devices in the channel.  The update arrived on my Acer Chromebook 15 this morning so most users should be able to upgrade to it now.

For those new to Chrome OS, the Beta Channel is the last stop before a build of the platform is released to the public Standard Channel.  Generally there are three to five beta builds before a release.  Timing wise, we probably have one more beta build to go before it is released.
