The powerful new compact phone from Sony, the Xperia X Compact, is now available on Amazon. The unlocked phone comes in Black, Blue or White and is $499 and eligible for Prime Shipping. The X Compact was announced last month at IFA in Berlin and the new 4.6″ Android phone turned heads there and created a lot of excitement when Sony announced it would be coming to the US. Spec wise, while the package of the phone is small, it is power packed. It runs on the Snapdragon 650 processor Hexa-core (4 cores 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 & 2 cores 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72). It is mated with the Adreno 510 GPU, has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of Storage. That storage can be expanded up to an additional 256GB thanks to the MicroSD slot. The display is 4.6″ rendering at 720 x 1280. That equates to 331 PPI and it is protected by Gorilla Glass 4.
The Xperia X Compact is unlocked and works on the following frequencies and bands.
- HSDPA 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700(AWS) / 1900 / 2100
- LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 17(700), 19(800), 20(800), 26(850), 28(700), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)
The phone is aimed at GSM carriers so for those of you on Verizon, Sprint or U.S. Cellular, sorry, this phone is not for you.
What really makes the Xperia X Compact stand out is the camera. The main camera is a 23MP f/2.0 wide angle camera with phase detection auto focus while the front camera is a 5MP unit with auto focus. These cameras are stunningly impressive and based on the test shots, they should produce some excellent photos for you no matter the situation or lighting condition.
The phone is shipping with Android Marshmallow but Sony has already announced that it will receive an Android Nougat update in the future. When that will happen hasn’t been determined but you can buy confidently knowing it will be updated at some point in the future.
You can get more information on the phone at the Sony Amazon page.
