[Spoiler Alert: This post contains references to the latest episode of Game of Thrones.]
If you are a fan of the HBO series Game of Thrones, there is a new app in the Google Play Store that is for you. Map of Game of Thrones, as the name suggest, gives you a zoomable map of Westeros and all of the lands of the fantasy series. The app is intuitive and gives you a wealth of information about locations – even those not featured in the show – as well as character information and episode information.
The app is done in vector mapping so it is highly responsive and easly to use. Using pinch-and-pull, you can zoom into regions in the map as well as cities. Tap on one of them and you will get a
pop-up of information about that city or region. The closer you zoom in, the more cities and other reference points you will see and can explore. The real power of this app comes for those who have read the Song of Fire and Ice books from George R.R. Martin, on which the HBO series is based. The books go into much more detail about towns and regions and you can somewhat fill in other details by using this app.
On the right side of the display there is a three panel button which gives you episode information, character information which includes their biographical information, historical information and famous quotes from those characters, and settings for the app. The episode information is keep current with weekly updates form the developer miniMaps and it already has the information from episode 2 which aired last Sunday (And really, who thought Snow was really, properly dead?)
The free version of the app is ad supported while the Pro version of the app, which is .99 Cents, is ad-free.
Check it out and see what you think. It’s a great add-on app for all GoT fans.
