AT&T Releases Security Update For The Note 5

AT&T announced yesterday on their support site that an important security update for Galaxy Note 5 users on their network will start receiving.  The notice simply states that the update has security and performance enhancements in it but does not go into details on what exactly those enhancements are in detail.  That’s not that uncommon but what is good to know is that the update brings along with it the February Android Security update for Lollipop 5.1.1 with it.

The argument could be made that the February update is indeed the only thing that is of importance in this update but there is no way to know that for sure outside of AT&T.  The bottom line for Note 5 users however is that you will be essentially caught up for the moment on security updates which is never a bad thing.  The March updates have

been announced but the OTAs for them are not flowing just yet.

If you have a Note 5, you will be notified when the update has hit your device and you can download it.  The update is 43MB but you will still need to make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi in order to get it.  You can also manually check by going to Settings>About Phone>System Update and check for it there but that doesn’t always force the issue.

Once you have the update, you can make sure you have the right one by comparing the information in About Phone with the information below:

  • Android version: 5.1.1
  • Baseband version: N920AUCU2APB2
  • Kernel version: 3.10.61-7085450 dpi@SWHD4013 #1 Thu Feb 11 15:02:58 KST 2016
  • Build number: LMY47X.N920AUCU2APB2
