While they carry a wide range of Android tablets already, AT&T has decided to enter the fray properly with their own device. The carrier announced yesterday that starting May 12th online and May 15th in stores, they will be offering the Trek HD 4G tablet in their stores. The Lollipop based tablet will be available for $49.99 on a two year contract or $10 per month on the 20 month installment plan. The non-contact price is $199.99 which for the specs is about where it should be price. The move is a bit of a surprise but goal of the carrier is to provide a premium device without the premium price.
According to AT&T’s Press Release, the Trek HD 4G will have the following specifications:
- Camera: 5 megapixel auto focus rear facing camera and 2 megapixel front facing camera
- Display: 8″ HD LCD Dispay
- Operating System: Android 5.0 Lollipop
- Processor: 1.6 GHz Quad-core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400
- Battery: 4060 mAh Lithium Ion battery for up to 8 hours
- Storage: 16 GB (microSD up to 32 GB sold separately)
- Weight: 12 ounces
On the surface, the Trek HD 4G will not be a bad device, especially if they keep it in the sub-$200 price range.
Importantly, the Trek HD 4G will come with Lollipop already installed, something that none of the other tablets AT&T currently offers can boast. It will also support multiple users or personas so you can share the device with family and of course, as the name suggest, will support 4G connectivity on the AT&T network.
