Good news this morning for those of you who have the LG V20 on Sprint. The carrier has released the Android Oreo update for the 2016 flagship phone and it is making its way out to customers now. The new build is OPR1.170623.032 for those keeping score at home.
The update brings all the standard goodness of Android Oreo 8.0 to the phone along with the July Android Security Update. As you would expect, it is a hefty update at just over 1.5GB so you will certainly want to download this update via WiFi and to install, you will need at least 80% battery life.
The update to Oreo for the LG V20 on Sprint marks the first major carrier here in the US to offer the upgrade. It is likely that we will see the likes of AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon offer it as well over the coming days. Carriers tend to fall in line pretty fast with each other on these types of updates. If you have a V20 on Sprint, you can check for the update by going to Settings>System Update.
Seeing these types of updates on phones that are a couple of years old is always great and is something that Android manufactures on the whole don’t do a great job of for their customers. That said, don’t expect Android P to be released for the V20, at least not through official channels. LineageOS already supports the V20 and likely will build an Android P build for it.
