As expected, the July 2018 Android Security Update patches were released this morning by Google. As a general rule, the Mountain View company releases the monthly updates on the first Monday of the first full week of each month.
This month’s update consists of two patches, one dated July 1, 2018 while the second is dated July 5, 2018. The first patch consists of 11 patches, 3 of which are considered critical updates. This July 1st patch is generally aimed at Android as a platform itself while the second patch is more device specific drivers and fixes.
That second, July 5th patch, consists of a total of 32 fixes and patches with 7 of them considered critical. The bulk of the updates in this patch are for Qualcomm closed-source components. There is also a specific fix for the Google Pixel 2 lineup around WiFi consistency when switching between access points. If you have a Google Pixel device, you will be receiving the July 5, 2018 patch which again, is the normal course for these patches.
The good news is that the full image as well as the OTA updates have already been released and are rolling out. I’ve already received that July 5 patch on my Google Pixel 2 XL, which was a small 54.7 MB in size.

- Pixel 2 XL – OPM2.171026.006.H1 or OPM4.171019.021.R1 (T-Mobile)
- Pixel – OPM4.171019.021.P1
- Pixel XL -OPM4.171019.021.P1
- Nexus 6P – OPM6.171019.030.E1
- Nexus 5X – OPM6.171019.030.E1
- Pixel C – OPM4.171019.021.N1
For those that are curious, if you have a Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL on Project Fi, you will be getting the T-Mobile updates outlined above.
