It has been a long time coming but Google Photos is finally going to give you the ability to mark photos in your library as favorites. The new features, which the Google Photos team announced via Twitter, is a cloud-side update and will be rolling out to all accounts throughout this week. Once you have it, you will be able to view a photo and will see a small star icon as you view that photo. Tap that star, that photo gets marked as a favorite.
As part of this feature, there will now be a new Favorites album in the menu and in your Albums view in Google Photos. That way you will be able to quickly find them in your library.
The ability to mark photos as favorites has been a long requested feature of Photos and one that the Photos app for iOS has had for a long time. It isn’t a orbit shifting feature but given that Photos is one of Google’s most successful and used apps, it is good to see the company listening to customers wants with the app and getting updates out there.
If you aren’t seeing the new feature yet, don’t panic. It will take Google this week to get it rolled out to everyone. So long as you have the latest version of the Google Photos app on your phone, you are good-to-go. Just check the app from time to time and see if you see the star icon when viewing photos. If you do, you have the feature.
