As expected today, Google has released the May 2018 Android Security Update for the Pixel and Nexus devices. The update, which consists of two patches, is rolling out now to compatible Google devices. With it being the Monday of the first full week of the new month, it was expected we would see these patches land today.
As has become the norm, there are two patches for this month’s Android Security Update. The first, dated May 1, 2018, consists of 7 patches, all of which are marked as High priority. The patches in this build deal with general Android items like frameworks, runtimes and other base elements to the platform.
The second patch, dated May 5, 2018, is more focused on device specific drivers and updates. This will be the patch the Nexus and Pixel devices will receive. In all, there are 16 updates in this patch, two of which are considered critical while the rest are marked as high priority. A critical fix for those you who have an Pixel XL, the charging issue had impacted that device has now been fixed with these updates.
Compared to the past few updates, this one is very small when it comes to the number of critical issues identified as well as the overall number of patches. Both the OTA images as well as the Full images for this month’s patches have now been released so if you have a Pixel device, you should be able to check for the update now to get it.
