Good news this morning for those of you who have the Honor 7X here in the United States. The Huawei sub-brand has released its Android Oreo update for the midrange phone with a select roll out already underway. The update comes as EMUI 8.0, Huawei’s flavor of Android and it is more-or-less the same build that is on the Mate 10 and P20 lineup of phones.
The update brings all the normal goodness that Oreo brings but also includes a lot of Huawei/Honor features such as Face Lock (similar to that on the iPhone X), a floating dock, improved settings layout and other features. It also comes with the April Android Security Update Patch.
The update to the Honor 7X to Oreo is only in the US right now. If you are in another country, you will have to wait a bit longer. If you are in the US, it could take several days or even a week or two before you see the update. As is normally the case when manufactures do a big update, Honor is slow rolling this one out to make sure that there aren’t any unknown bugs in the build. Assuming that all goes well, it will likely be expanded to more devices as the days go on from release.
The Honor 7X has been a popular phone here in the US and has overall received solid reviews. The price point of $199 makes it attractive too, especially now that it has Android Oreo on board.
