With Chrome 66 landing on all of the browser variants of Chrome this week, both desktop and mobile, the last update is with Chrome OS. That is expected to happen next week on April 25th. In the meantime, a fifth and likely final beta of Chrome 66 has arrived in the Chrome OS Beta Channel for those who have their devices in that channel. The new build is 66.0.3359.117 (Platform version: 10452.69.0).
For those who have a machine in the Beta Channel, you should check for the update by typing chrome://help in the browser bar and clicking the Check for Update button.
Assuming no major bugs are found, this should be the last beta given we are close to the expected release date. Also, don’t be too surprised if this .117 build is what makes it to the Stable Channel next week. The Chromium team often treats these late beta builds as Candidate Release builds. If something major is found, they will simply postpone the update.
In reviewing the release notes for this new build, it is mostly all about cleaning up the final open issues and some security fixes. There isn’t anything overwhelming new in the build but there are always a few gems it seems with every Chrome OS build. As previously reported, Chrome 66 is a bit of a maintenance build with Chrome 67, slated for later this summer, that we will get a significant number of new features.
