Android Oreo Begins Rolling Out to The Huawei P10 Series

After being in beta for the last couple of months, the EMUI 8 update for the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus is now rolling out globally.  EMUI is Huawei’s own variant of Android and the version 8 build is based on Android Oreo.  The release has started but it appears that Huawei is slow rolling it for now.  It could be several weeks before the update gets to everyone.

The update for the Huawei P10 and the P10 Plus is build 8.0.0.360(C636) and this build appears to be for all variants of the devices (single-SIM, dual-SIM).  The update also comes with the February 2018 Android Security Update patch.

Aside from all the goodness that you get with Android Oreo itself, the EMUI 8 update includes a lot of Huawei features for the phones.  These include things like the company’s AI driven experience on the phone (it learns what and how you use the phone) as well as improvements to the floating dock.

Essentially, this is the same update that rolled out to the Mate 9 a few weeks back as well as some of the Honor devices, Huawei’s sub-brand.  Those updates took weeks to completely roll out and I suspect that it will be the same for those who have the P10 around the world.

The update to EMUI 8 is timed well.  Huawei is going to be announcing the P20, the replacement device, in Paris in a couple of weeks so it is good to see the current, although on the way out, device, get the latest version of Android on board.

If you have a P10 or P10 Plus and get the update, drop a comment.  So far, my P10 has not received the update. :-\
