In an unexpected move, it looks like Samsung has pulled their Android Oreo update for the Samsung Galaxy S8 lineup. The update to the latest version of Android began rolling out to beta testers in Europe last week but according to SamMobile, the build has been pulled from Samsung’s update servers.
The news likely means that a show stopping bug or other install issues was discovered after the limited rollout began, forcing the South Korean company to halt the updates to prepare a new build to address the issue.
No official word has come from Samsung on the halt and the reasons for it remain unclear. Whatever the reason, the company certainly isn’t the first to pull an update after it was released. OnePlus has done it multiple times as has LG. While beta testing is always a good thing, nothing beats real world deployment and that often finds that one last bug that causes problems.
The challenge, of course, is that the Samsung Galaxy S8 beta of Oreo has been going on for months and owners are more than anxious to get the new build on their phones to get the latest that Android has to offer. With this set back however, it looks like it is going to be at least several more weeks before unlocked variants of the S8 and S8+ will see it.
