Following the updates to the Chrome browser and Chrome for Android updates last week, Chrome OS has now been updated to the Chrome 59 train. Builds 59.0.3071.91, 59.0.3071.92 (Platform version: 9460.60.0, 9460.60.2) have been released for all devices running the platform with the exception of the Chromebook Pixel 2015 model. The update is rolling out now and should be hitting devices over the course of the next few days.
Like the Chrome 59 update for Android and the browser, Material Design is now enabled by default on the Settings in Chrome OS. Native printer support is also available now, not just Google Cloud Printing. You can now setup a printer via IP address on your network and print directly to it from your Chromebook.
There are, of course, a wide range of security updates and bug fixes in this update. Like other Chrome OS updates, the full list of fixes are not disclosed yet. The Chromium team within Google tends to keep these under covers until a vast majority of devices are updated to the latest build. This is to prevent any exploits being taken advantage of prior to updates.
If you have a Chromebook, Chromebase or other device running the platform then you can expect the update to hit your device this week. You can, as always, force the issue by going to chrome://help in the browser and clicking the Check for Update button. This will download it to your device immediately.
For those of you who have a Chromebook Pixel 2015, you will probably get a one-off update over the next few weeks.

One of our web-applications is facing print issues after upgrading to Chrome 59. It is reducing the width of the print area and decreasing the printed font size/ clarity of the text.
Could this be due to the Native printer support that has been added in Chrome 59? If so, how could we go about disabling the Native print support so that it works the way it used to work in previous versions?

It’s possible that it is a bug but I’ve not read anyone else having this trouble. What printer manufacture is it?
Its EPSON LX 310. The page shrinks to 50% width. It works on other browsers and printers.
Yeah… so Cannon and Epson printers are notoriously difficult to get to work with Chrome OS. They either don’t work or have weird issues like this one. I don’t know of any fix unfortunately.
Alright. Is there any other printer that you would recommend?
It is hard for me to suggest a particular make or model as everyone’s opinions on printers vary. I personally use a HP OfficeJet and I’ve had zero issues with it connecting & printing. My son, who also uses Chrome OS, also has a HP DeskJet and it works too.
