Samsung Galaxy S8 Lineup Seeing October Android Security Update

Good news this morning for those of you who have the Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus.  The company has begun rolling out an update that brings the October Android Security Update to the devices.  Software version G955FXXU1AQI9 is rolling out to unlocked variants of the phone and along with the security fixes, there are some other improvements to be found.  The update is 479MB in size so it is advised that you be connected to WiFi when you download it to install.

The biggest thing with the October update is a fix for Bluetooth issues that impacted all Android devices.  There are, of course, a wide range of other fixes and security updates too.

Samsung has also added some stability fixes to the launcher as well as DeX in the device.

It is great to see Samsung stepping up and getting these Android Security  Update releases out in a timely manner.  It wasn’t so long ago that they were one of the slowest in getting updates out but since the S7 lineup, they have been steadily improving, likely due to pressure from their competition getting updates out and Google themselves.

As is the case with these software updates, it may take a few days before it hits your device.  If you are new to Android, this is standard operating procedure for the vast majority of manufactures.  You can always check for the update by going to Settings>Software update on your phone
