It is update time for Chrome OS users. The Chromium team in Google has just announced the release of build 49.0.2623.95 (Platform version: 7834.60.0) for all devices. As usual, the update is full of bug and security fixes that we expect each month with a release but there are also several new features that are coming along with this build. Perhaps the most notable is a new Material Design look for the Media Players on the platform. This certainly will give it a more modern look and feel over the more plain Chrome look of the past.
Here is the run down of the new features in this update:
-
Material Redesign for Media Players
- Ability to choose keyboard layout of extension IME
- New notifications for dual-role Raiden devices (Chromebook Pixel 2015)
- Add Video preview and album cover as thumbnails in Files App
The update is rolling out now and users should expect to see the OTA update for it over the course of the next few days. As always, you can force the issue by going to Settings>About Chrome OS and have it check for an update. I have already downloaded it onto my HP Chromebook 11 G4 and it took less than 10 minutes from start to install to restart.
