The official Instagram for Android app has been updated today, bringing two new editing tools for users to enhance their photos. The update, version 6.20.1 for those keeping score at home, is available now in the Play Store. it is a small update at 8.14MB and one well worth getting.
The first new tool is a Color Tool. This allows you to add a color overlay to your shadow or highlights. So you can make the shadows red or blue for example.

The second new tool is a Fade Tool. This one allows you to give your photos an aged film effect. This one is a bit more fun as you can fade your image to look older. It is a bit like the 1977 filter in some ways but you have more control with this tool. Keep in mind that both of these new tools are in the Tools section of the Instagram app, not the filters.
Like many other Android apps, the Instagram app has been seeing several regular updates over the past few weeks. Most of those have been focused on bug fixes and performance enhancements so today’s update is nice to see from a new feature perspective.
For my Windows Phone readers, the irony is not lost. Just this morning I posted on the latest update to 6Tag as being the Instagram app for that platform. One key reasons is that Instagram has not updated their app in well over a year at this point.
I’m going to assume that everyone knows what Instagram is so I won’t go into details of explaining it. If you are on Instagram and want to follow me, you can at ClintonFitchDotCom.
