The popular Instagram app 6Tag has received another update for those who use it on Windows Phone. This latest update, version 4.1 for those keeping score at home, was hinted at last week by developer Rudy Huyn on Twitter and included a tease of the biggest improvement of the release: Improved photo upload quality. 6Tag is my favorite Instagram app for Windows Phone, far outstripping the year-long beta Instagram official app in features and functionality.

With the 4.1 update, 6Tag brings a significant bump in photo quality once they are uploaded. To be honest, it wasn’t bad before this release but now the photos you upload do not lose nearly as much quality from what I would guess would be an improved compression algorithm. While this is the banner feature of this update, it is certainly not the only one. The home view of the app is much
more clean and modern looking while for those of us who use phablets like the Lumia 1520 or Lumia 1320 (and the new Lumia 640XL) the layout is improved there to take advantage of that extra screen real estate.
If you have not tried 6Tag, I highly recommend giving it a try if you are looking for a solid, well featured Instagram app for your Windows Phone. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
6Tag is free but it is ad supported. You can do an in-app purchase of $1.99 to eliminate those ads which I would encourage as the developer, Rudy Huyn, has been one of the most active and well appreciated developers in the community. How much? If you are using the official Dropbox app on your Windows Phone, he developed that too.
