OneDrive for Android Update Adds Document Scanning Function

Microsoft has released an update to the OneDrive app for Android that brings several new features.  The updated version is build 4.1 for those keeping score and out at the Google Play Store now.  The biggest feature change in this update is the ability to “scan” a document from within the app directly to your OneDrive account.  The new feature leverages the Office Lens functionality which, if you haven’t tried it, is mighty impressive in its own right.  Now OneDrive will leverage that technology and give you a clean, crisp image of a document.

Microsoft Updates Excel, PowerPoint and Word for Android With Various Improvements

Microsoft has quietly rolled out updates to the Office suite apps Excel, PowerPoint and Word for Android today, bringing a few product enhancements and tweaks to each app.  For those of you who use and have the apps on your phone or tablet, the OTA updates are in the Google Play Store now and should be hitting your devices over the course of the next few days.  With these update, each app has gotten a bit of attention when it comes to new features or improvements to existing features.

Google Photos Update Brings Several Useful Design Tweaks

Google Photos for Android has an update rolling out in the Google Play Store right now that brings with it a lot of small but important design tweaks to improve the overall user experience.  The update you are looking for is build 1.19 for those keeping score at home and when you get it, you will notice the biggest change immediately.  Gone is the blue Search button at the bottom of the screen while a search bar, much like that in Google Play Music, is at the top of the page.

Google Calendar Update Makes Finding A Meeting Time Easier

Google Calendar has an update rolling out today that will make finding common meeting times with your co-workers much easier and faster.  The update brings a new feature, Find a time, that will look at your calendar and the calendar of others you are inviting to a meeting to find an open time that works for everyone.  The feature will only be available for those who use Google Apps for Work and Education which makes sense given that everyone would be in the same domain and calendars would be readable by the app.

PayPal Adds Ability to Add Money To Your Account at CVS and Rite Aid

PayPal has released an update to their app for Android that brings a great new feature for those who want to add money to their account.  Now you can go to your local CVS or Rite Aid location and add funds to your account and it will show up within 15 minutes.  The update is rolling out now and all users of the app should have the OTA update come to them over the course of the next few days.

Gmail Update Brings Exchange Support To Everyone

Google has finally rolled out an update to Gmail that brings support for Exchange to the masses.  The update is rolling out to the Google Play Store now and you should see the update come to you via OTA update over the course of the next few days.  Once you do, you will be able to add an Exchange server to the app, unifying your inbox with your Gmail and other mail services.  Gmail to this point has only offered Exchange support on Nexus devices which mean that corporate users had to use multiple apps to deal with their email.

Bank of America App Update Brings Fingerprint Sign In Support

The Bank of America app for Android has been updated and with it comes support for fingerprint support for sign in.  Now if you have an Android phone running Android Marshmallow that has a fingerprint scanner, you can now use it to sign into the app to get to your accounts.  The update takes advantage of Marshmallow’s fingerprint API and adds to the app’s already support of Samsung’s fingerprint API.

Google News & Weather App Update Brings AMP Support

Google has released an important update to the Google News & Weather app for Android that brings support for AMP pages.  Accelerated Mobile Pages, or AMP, are pages designed in a more lightweight fashion that provide you the content of a web page much faster than traditional HTML.  It is a project that Google has been working on for months and the adoption and integration of AMP has been progressing steadily over that time.  For the record, ClintonFitch.com is 100% AMP compliant.
