The adoption of Android Marshmallow continues today with the release of the latest supported build of Android coming to both the Verizon LG V10 and the Sprint Galaxy Note 5. For those of you on Verizon who have a V10, the build you are looking for is VS99022A while on Sprint, the version you want to get for your Note 5 is N920PVU2BPC3. As with all of these update, they are rolling out in phases so it make take a day or up to a week for it to actually come to your device. Once it does, you will have all of the benefits of Android Marshmallow including things like Doze and more robust app permissions.
While Verizon has not indicated that they have included any new software with the update other than the bump to the new OS, Sprint has pointed out that users of the Note 5 will also get an update to TouchWiz, the Samsung launcher. Sprint also points out that users who upgrade will have their devices encrypted for better security should the device be lost or stolen.
These two devices are just the latest in a long list of devices that have been upgraded to the latest version of Android over the course of the past 45 days, with carriers like Sprint and Verizon rolling it out to several devices as well as
Samsung Galaxy Note 5
T-Mobile and AT&T. While the adoption rate still remains low, it is certainly making strides thanks to these releases.
You can always check for the update on either device by going to Settings>About Phone>Software Update to see if the update has rolled out to you. Once it does get downloaded to your device, the upgrade process will reboot your phone. Given the size of the upgrade on both devices, expect a 15-30 minute total time to update and get back going. You will also have to be connected to Wi-Fi to download the update.
