The Expedia app for Android has receive a major update that brings several new features including the ability to plan and book events on your trips. The new version 4.0 for those keeping score at home, also brings improved car rental filters and the ability to sign up and earn Expedia+ points. If you use Expedia then this update is certainly one you need to get updated to on your phone.

With this update to the app you can now plan events that are around you or the destination where you are going. It isn’t just about the hotel and car anymore with the service. On the main display of the app you will see a new Activities button where you can find these events. I did a quick check this morning here in the Denver area and it quickly pulled up more than a dozen events going on this week in the area. It is certainly a great way to find out things going around you – even in your home town – if you are lost for things to do.

There is also a much improved rental car filters in the app which will make searching for a car much easier and will help you narrow down what type of car you are interested in renting.
Finally there is the new Expedia+ Rewards program. Like many other travel programs, you earn points with each booking you make through the service. Those points in turn can be used to book free travel from the company. The program appears to be pretty generous compared to others with top-tier status earned in as few as 15 nights in hotels booked through the service.
