The latest update to Microsoft Edge for Android is now rolling out to the Google Play Store with a slew of new features and updates. The new build is version 42.0.0.2033 for those keeping score at home and brings support for Microsoft Family accounts as well as the ability to read Books purchased from the Microsoft Store.
The update to Edge also brings support for signing into the browser with your work and school account. While this doesn’t do a lot for you right now, Microsoft plans to roll out Favorites and password sync across devices leveraging the signed in account. There is no word yet on when that will be released.
Probably the biggest news for parents is support for Microsoft family accounts coming to Microsoft Edge on Android. Now adults on those accounts can configure Edge to allow or block sites for their children. This gives parents more control over the content their children can access and gives them peace of mind too.
Finally, as mentioned, if you have acquired eBooks from the Microsoft Store, you can now read those books on your phone via Edge. This is something that the desktop version of the browser has done since the early days so it is good to see parity of features roll out to mobile devices too.
If you have Edge installed on your Android phone, you should have the update available now to install. If you want to try the browser, it is a free download.
