AT&T has released the Android Oreo update for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ on their network, becoming the last major US carrier to do so. Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint have all released the update, with Verizon being the first.
For those of you on AT&T, if you have the Galaxy S8, you are looking for build G950USQU2CRB9. If you have a Galaxy S8+, build G955USQU2CRB9 is your jam. In both cases, the updates come with the February Android Security Update patch and both updates come in at just over 1.5GB in size. That means that downloading over WiFi is a must.
As for what you are getting, the most noticeable change beyond the goodies that Oreo itself brings is the new Samsung Experience 9 user experience. This is the same experience of the new Galaxy S9 and brings things like improvements to edge panels, new clock styles, and an always-on display. Experience 9 also brings some improved stability to the device as well as some performance improvements as Samsung did a fair amount of work on it in preparation for the S9. You, as a S8 owner, get the same benefits.
The update is just now rolling out from AT&T so it could be several days before everyone sees the OTA update come to their phone. You can always manually check for the update by going to Settings>Software Update but that, as you well know, doesn’t always yield any results.
