A new update to Microsoft Lens for Android is rolling out today that brings improved offline support to the content capturing app. The update, version 16.0.8730.2076 for those keeping score at home and who like version numbering BINGO! allows users to safe content as PDFs while offline.
Previously, in order to capture content using Lens and converting it to a PDF, you had to be online. Now, if you are offline and capture something with lens, it is save as a PDF locally and when you are back online, it will upload it to your OneDrive account as usual.
For those who aren’t familiar with Office Lens, the app trims and enhances images of documents, business cards, whiteboards and other content and allows you to convert those images to PDF, Word or PowerPoint files. You an also save the captures to your OneNote account or your OneDrive account.
In my view, Office Lens is one of the most underrated Microsoft Office apps. It is fantastic for taking snaps of whiteboards or presentations. It is very accurate and the enhancements it makes to whiteboards in particular are great.
Like the other Office apps, Lens is free to use and a free download in the Play Store. You will need to have a OneDrive or OneNote account (also free) it use all of the features. For those who already have the app installed, expect to see the OTA update over the course of the next few days.
Is the pdf file saving offline only available on certain versions or Android or certain devices, because i had tried the verdion mentioned on my Samsumg Tab 2 and an LG G2 and both devices report that i need to be online to save as a pdf
According to Microsoft, you have to be running Android 4.4 or higher. I was able to get it to work offline with my Pixel XL and my Lenovo Yoga Book with no problem.
