Google Play Games, the game hub for Android devices, has a new update rolling out to the Play Store today that brings a new game as well as a new search functionality to help you find games to play. The new update is version 5.10 for those keeping score at home. It has been released by Google to the store but it may take a day or two to get to everyone.
The first new bit in this update to Google Play Games is the classic game Snake. Like you use to play it in the pre-smartphone days, Snake allows you to use swipe actions to move the snake around the screen to eat the apples without crashing into the walls.
Technically this was in Play Games version 5.9 as it was a cloud-side update to everyone just as version 5.10 was released. That means if you are still waiting for the latest update, you should still see the Snake game in your list of games built into the app or installed on your phone.
Second, there is a new search functionality built into the app that allows you to search for new games to play. The search icon is located right next to your gamer icon on the main page of the app.
Finally, there is a new setting in this update that allows you to disable autoplay videos in the app. Previously, when you went to a game listing in Google Play Games, it would automatically begin playing associated videos with that game. This puts a stop to it if you don’t like videos to start playing.
Look for the update to come to your phone over the course of the next few days as it rolls out to everyone in the Play Store.
