OnePlus has released a new build of the Android P Developer Preview for owners of the OnePlus 6 registered in the beta testing program. The update is based on Google’s own Developer Preview 4 (Beta 3) which OnePlus has taken and added their special touches that make up their variant, OxygenOS. The update is broadly rolling out now and should be to everyone over the course of the next few days.
As you may recall, when Google announced Android P back at Google I/O, it came with the opportunity for the first time for select devices from select OEMs to participate in the beta program. OnePlus with the OnePlus 6 is one of those. Developer Preview 4 was released for Pixel devices a few weeks back and given that OnePlus has to layer in their own elements that make up OxygenOS, they’ve done a good job of getting it out in a timely manner.
As for what is new, there is a fair amount. Officially this build of OxygenOS is build 6.872904 and according to the change log, here is what’s new, fixed or is a known issue:
- System
- Updated Android security patch to 2018.7
- Updated Google Mobile Services
- Improved system stability
- Fixed issue with hotspot functionality
- Camera
- Improved image quality
- Fixed issue with watermark option functionality
- Third-Party Apps
- Improved camera functionality with third-party apps
- Fixed compatibility issues with certain third-party apps
Other known Issues:
- System
- System stability and power consumption issues
- Bluetooth
- Compatibility issues with Bluetooth connectivity
- Third-Party Apps
- Some apps may not function as expected when running on this Developer preview release
Keep in mind that like all Android P builds, they are in beta and while these builds are getting very close to completion, none of them are recommended for running on your primary phone. You could run into issues that make your phone sluggish or unusable. They call it beta for a reason. 🙂
