The slow but steady global availability of Google Home continues with the Google Assistant powered smart speaker coming to Australia and Germany. For Aussies, Home as well as Google WiFi will be available on July 20th while Germans will have to wait until next month before Home comes to your country. The expansion follows it coming to France and Canada earlier this year.
In Australia, Home will be available from the Google Store, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Officeworks, The Good Guys, Telstra, Optus and Qantas Store. It will be $199 AUD, about $157US. Google WiFi will be $199 for a single unit while the 3-pack will be $499. For those in Germany, Home will be €149.
Google has made it clear of their plans to make Google Home a global product and so far, despite it being a slow roll, they are keeping to their plan. With each rollout, Home has native language support which has been part of the process and, likely, why the rollout has been slow. Google has been working to assure that users have a solid, natural language experience with Google Assistant.
Regardless of language, Home has grown up a lot since its release last year. A wide number of services & bots are now available for the device which has expanded its functionality and usefulness in the home. I reviewed Home shortly after its release and many of the shortcomings it had at the time have been addressed… but others do remain. It isn’t perfect but it is seems very clear that Google intents to make Home a central part of your life in your home through continual updates and feature improvements.
