If you are on the T-Mobile network and have a Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, you will want to check for a small but important security update that has been released by the carrier. The update brings a security fix to the device although the details of exactly what was fixed is not explicitly laid out in the release notes. It isn’t the May Android Security update as that came earlier in the month so this is a separate fix from that release. On the Galaxy S7, you are looking for build G930TUVS3APD8 while on the S7 Edge, you will want to look for build G935TUVU3APD8.
For either device, the update is a lightweight 43MB so downloading it shouldn’t take long at all although you will have to reboot your device to install the update. As you know, you can manually
check for the update by going to Settings>About Phone>System Updates and it should be available for everyone at this point. If you don’t want to bother with it now, no worries. The OTA will come to you in a few days anyway.
For those who want to read the Release Notes, you can find them on the T-Mobile site. For the Galaxy S7, visit this link. For S7 Edge owners, you need to go to this link.
The good news for S7 owners is that all of the carriers, but T-Mobile in particular, are doing a great job of keeping these devices up-to-date with the latest updates and security fixes. It is great to see for sure but ultimately it is the user of these devices that benefits the most for obvious reasons.
