Google’s inexpensive Virtual Reality viewer, Google Cardboard, has been added to several local Google Stores around the globe for purchase. Now Android users in Canada, France, the UK, and Germany can order the viewer from their local Google Store online so they can experience Google’s low cost entry into VR. To this point the viewer, which essentially wraps around your phone and is made of, you guessed it, cardboard, was only available in the US. For those that don’t remember, Cardboard began life as a freebie handout at Google I/O 2014 but earlier this year the company began selling it on their site along with some other, more stylish viewers.
In Canada, the viewer will be priced at $20 CAN while in the UK it will be 15 Pounds. For those in France & Germany, it will be 20 Euros. You will also need to download the Cardboard app for
your phone to pair up the viewer with your phone and enable the VR experience with it. Of course there are a host of other apps now that can take advantage of the viewer.
With Google I/O 2016 starting next week, where a lot of emphasis is expected to be placed on VR, the expansion of having this basic viewer globally is a good move and hopefully will pave the way for it to come to other countries soon. By-the-way, if you want to save a bit of money, you can buy a set of two viewers for a discount at the Store.
