The recently announced Lumia 640 and Lumia 640XL have made their way to the Microsoft Store in the UK and are available for Pre-Order. In case you missed it, these are the two new Lumias that were announced at Mobile World Congress and are 5″ and 5.7″ mid-range Windows Phones respectively. The pricing is in line with what was expected. The Lumia 640 will be about $250 while the larger Lumia 640XL is equal to $325. Both can be pre-ordered now with a release date of April 28 being posted on the site.
The move is good to see as it means that we will likely see these two new Lumias in the Microsoft Store here in the US in short order. Both the Lumia 640 and the Lumia 640XL have generally been met with positive responses by those who have seen and used them at MWC and I think most of the Windows Phone community is glad to see a new mid-range set of phones instead of the lower end budget devices.
The Lumia 640 will run on the Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor at 1.2GHz and will sport a 8GB of storage on board. That can be augmented with up to 128GB on a MicroSD card. The rear camera is a 8MP autofocus capable of shooting 1080p video while the front facing camera is a HD 1MP wide angle. The display is a 5″ HD 1280×720 IPS that does support Glance which if you don’t have, once you do, will love.
The Lumia 640XL will be powered by the Snapdragon 400 Quad-Core processor running at 1.2GHz and will sport 1GB of RAM. It will have 8GB of internal storage with expansion up to an additional 128GB with a MicroSD card. It has a 5.7″ IPS display running at 1280×720 with Glance screen and sunlight readability enhancements for when you are outside. The rear camera is probably the single biggest improvement over the Lumia 1320. The 1320 has a 5MP camera while the 640XL will have a 13MP camera. That rear camera can also shoot 1080p video and has a flash. The front facing camera is a 5MP wide angle fixed focus. It will also have SensorCore.
