Microsoft has released an update to the Nokia Software Recovery Tool with support for newer Lumia devices. The update, version 5.0.5 for those keeping score at home, fundamentally works the same way as it always has although there are a few minor layout changes. If you are not familiar with this tool, it is a download that allows you to recover your Lumia phone to its original firmware configuration if your phone will not respond or is stuck in a loop. Rarely should you need to use this if ever but the tool is there and available for free.

The main changes in this updated version of the Nokia Software Recovery Tool is support for the latest set of Lumia devices and some minor UI improvements. Functionally it remains the same although there are a few minor
bug fixes in the update as well.
It is important to note that the tool is a Windows desktop app so for those running it on Windows 8.1 devices you will have to run it in Desktop mode. Also, it is a Windows only app so for you Mac users, you’ll have to install this on a Windows 7 or later PC or have it run in a virtual machine on your Mac.
