Toshiba has kicked off CES 2015 with the announcement of the Encore 2 Write, a new 8″ and 10″ Windows tablet that will support Wacom Pen technology. The new tablets, which are strikingly similar to the Encore 2 from this year, will have support for what Toshiba is calling TruPen. TruPen uses Wacom Feel technology which gives 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity. The chassis of the Encore 2 Write does have a clip at the bottom for storage of the pen.
The Encore 2 Write will come in 8″ and 10″ versions and both have 1280 x 800 resolution, have Atom processors and 2GB of RAM. They also come standard with 64GB of storage but you can expand that up to an additional 128GB with a MicroSD card. Both tablets are running Windows 8.1 with Bing and will come with 1 year of Office 365 Professional.
My primary Windows tablet is the Encore 2 which I reviewed here on the site. I’ve been quite pleased with it and seeing Toshiba develop the Encore 2 lineup is great, especially adding pen touch support which, especially on the 8″ model, could be very handy.
The Toshiba Encore 2 Write will be available starting January 11 at Microsoft Stores and directly from Toshiba. The 8″ model will be $349 while the 10″ unit will be $499.
